North West Car Tour

The map below Shows the route of a car-tour to the north west of Craigiewood. It takes in north west Ross-shire and part of west Sutherland. The route as shown is 135 miles long and is mostly on good roads, if a little twisty in parts.

The route will take you to the wilds of west Sutherland, some of the remotest country in Europe.

To fully appreciate this country, a detour to Achiltibuie and/or to Lochinver is recommended. However, some of the roads in this remote area are tortuous and narrow and will take time to negotiate. You must be the judge of where you choose to go.

Some points of interest and utility have been indicated and more will be added in future.

There is much to engage the naturalist and geologist. The whole of the area between Durness and Achiltibuie has recently been designated a UNESCO Geopark which is an indication of its world-wide significance.

You may note that there are few markers for "Fine Views". The whole journey is scenically attractive and you will find this category, easily, on your own!

You are recommended to use the Terrain mode on the map. This gives a better idea of the kind of country you will be travelling in.
